Meet the COMBO Board - Mike Whaley

Meet Mike Whaley, this is his first year on the COMBO board and we could not be more thrilled to have him!  He is full of energy and great ideas for the trails and events.  He has taken on the role of race director, quarry project liaison and is currently dreaming of making enduro racing great in Central Ohio! Stayed tuned for more on that!

Mike got his first mountain bike in 1992. He used that full rigid 26’er for commuting where he would hit all the concrete jumps and drops he could find. He made regular trips to the jumps at Tuttle Park, explored the quarry and rode the original trail Alum Creek that is now P1.  It wasn’t until 2004 though that he really discovered mountain biking. Using paper maps he discovered gems in the form of fast descents at Scioto Trails.  He had no idea that his bike was holding him back until he went to a demo day at P1 and discovered how far the mountain bikes had come since the 90's.  He promptly got a new bike and has been riding regularly ever since.

Mike began volunteering on trail days and became a COMBO member in 2010.  He started attending board meetings regularly in 2017. Once he found out about the quarry project (keepitontheqt.com)  he knew he needed to be involved more.  His goals as race director are to refine the way races are timed and offer some exciting race formats that feature COMBO's varied trails. As the Quarry Liaison he wants to see the quarry become a mountain bike playground. He sees a ton of potential at the quarry and recognizes having places to ride inside 270 is a huge priority for Central Ohio mountain bikers.
