Meet the Board - Jen Malik
Meet Jen Malik, this is her second year serving on the COMBO Board and she is our current Secretary. Five years ago she dove head first into the cycling community. Jen comes from a swimming and running background and dabbled in triathlons. Hard to believe but she claims she was horrendous at the cycling portion. Determined to improve her cycling, she fell in love with all things bikes and dirt (or mud in the case of cyclocross). Ironically she has not done one triathlon since! The upcoming mountain bike season will be her 3rd UCI season as a professional mountain biker and Jen will be competing in her first World Cup mountain bike event at Mont Saint Anne! When she is not on the bike she is busy wrapping up her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at The Ohio State University or volunteering at the Franklin County Dog Shelter.
Jen wants to help grow our local trails so that they can accommodate all types of riders so that they can ride a variety of trail designs and difficulties without having to leave the state. When she first started mountain biking she was lucky enough to be surrounded by a group of people who loved to travel to different trails to ride. Within her first year of riding I rode Copper Harbor, Pisgah, and Cold Water Mountain (plus a handful of other places). These experiences and different trails helped shape her love for riding as well as helped her develop skills that she felt our current trails couldn't. She joined COMBO so that she can take advantage of all knowledge from the different mountain bike trails she has ridden and help bring some of those features home. Jen realizes that not everybody has the job flexibility or finances to travel for weeks to ride and it would be great if they could have the same opportunity to ride a variety of trails and enjoy the sport as it evolves and grows.
