Meet the COMBO Board - Walker Powell
Ever wonder who organizes events and volunteers? Who maintains and builds the trails you love? Who meets with land managers and makes magic happen? Who is behind the curtain? Who is making the donuts? Who is driving the train!? In the next few weeks we will be introducing each of our current board members. They each play a critical role on our volunteer working board.
First up is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet, Walker Powell. If you have ever ridden on our trails, chances are you have met Walker. He spends a good deal of time out on trail, building, maintaining and helping out riders in need.
Walker has been riding two wheels, (motorized and pedal), since he was 6. In his younger days, he raced off road motorcycles nationally as a amateur. In 2005, he bought a Gary Fisher Cake and started riding P1. He got hooked and has been mountain biking ever since. He joined COMBO and the National Mountain Bike Patrol in February of 2006.
He believes that being involved in mountain biking means not only riding, but giving back to the community. After doing countless trail days he eventually decided to run for the COMBO Board of Directors. He is currently the Co-Treasurer and Co-Bike Patrol Coordinator.
Walker's goal this year is to focus more on mountain bike patrol training, trail maintenance and serving at most all of COMBO events. If you see him out on the trail or at an event be sure to shake his hand and thank him for his hard work!
